The Hooks of Tobi
In addition to Japanese and American hooks, the following seven major styles are made and used today. Each style has many variations. The following drawings are schematic. The word “Fong” refers to the barb.
Here are tracings of actual hooks. Only a few hooks have specific names. The rest are known simply by their style.
1. Fahum (round)
2. Ramatiho (bottom smaller than top, point round)
3. Yawariyet (bottom smaller than top, straight point)
4. Ramaribout (top smaller than bottom with Fong)
5. Fotomahech (top smaller than bottom, no Fong)
6. Hapi Sehe (made with three straight lines)
7. Haufong (top bigger than bottom with Fong)
